Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Habanero honey

How to Make the Ultimate Crispy and Spicy Fried Chicken.

Buttermilk chicken with honey

This recipe is about making Buttermilk Fried Chicken with a twist of Habanero honey. The recipe involves marinating chicken in buttermilk and a mixture of habanero honey.

For the chicken:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs cut into bite-sized pieces(you can use drumsticks too)

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • One tablespoon of hot sauce

  • One teaspoon of smoked paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the habanero honey glaze:

  • 1/2 cup habanero honey

  • One tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the breading:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

  • One tablespoon of smoked paprika

  • One teaspoon of garlic powder

  • One teaspoon of onion powder

  1. To marinate the chicken, put the buttermilk, spicy sauce, paprika, onion and garlic powders, cayenne, black pepper, and salt in a big basin. After adding the chicken, toss to ensure the piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least two hours, or overnight, for the best flavor.

  2. Make the habanero honey glaze: In a small saucepan, combine the habanero honey, apple cider vinegar, paprika, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened. Set aside.

  3. Bread the chicken: In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess drip off, and dredge each piece in the breading mixture, coating evenly.

  4. Fry the chicken: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat until shimmering (around 350°F). Working in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot, carefully add the breaded chicken and fry for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

  5. Toss and serve: Pour the habanero honey glaze over the fried chicken in a big dish, gently tossing to coat. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, ranch dressing, or blue cheese dip.
